TABOR & VILLALOBOS AT L'ECLAIREUR
Cristina Grajales Gallery is pleased to announce Tabor &
Villalobos's upcoming exhibitions in Paris at the fashion and design
institution, L’Eclaireur. Their work will be featured in two
L’Eclaireur’s locations; the Rue Hérold exhibition will open June 28th -
September 2013, and from September-October 2013, the exhibition will be
showcased at L’Eclaireur’s brand new location, “Neuf-trois”.
The installations at L’Eclaireur will feature sculptures and
photographs from Tabor & Villalobos’ provocatively enigmatic HIC et
NUNC series of work, as well as a selection of Tabor & Villalobos’
single commission jewelry pieces. Filled with cardboard skeletons,
drawings resembling museum specimens and photographs taken from
Transylvania to Paris, Hic et Nunc is an artificial museum of false
preservation built within the gallery walls, an imaginary ossuary in
resin and cardboard.
Hic et Nunc began with Villalobos and Tabor’s visits to the Muséum
National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris and the photographs they shot in
the Gallery of Paleontology over several years. The work explores the
changing relationships we have with the world between our urban centers
and our interventions in the landscapes surrounding us. Hic et Nunc
engages with the museum space as a symbol of our relationship with the
“natural world”. It questions how ideas of preservation and
presentation in museums shape our understanding of ourselves and our
place in the world around us.
